Hydrotite
Hydrotite is the original expanding rubber seal used in a variety of applications for sealing joints against water penetration.
IInitially developed for sealing segmental concrete tunnel linings, Hydrotite is a compound of polychloroprene (Neoprene) and hydrophilic resin. When in contact with water and allowed to expand freely (depending on the grade and water conditions), Hydrotite will swell up to 7 times its original volume.
IIn practice, Hydrotite should be confined in a joint and will expand to fill the gap and create a pressure between the joint faces. By careful selection of the section to suit the application, pressures significantly in excess of 10 bar can be sealed.
Benefits of Hydrotite include
- Ease of application
Easy to handle
- Time delay on reaction
to cope with the British weather conditions
- Cheaper
as less labour required
- Next day delivery
lightweight product - easier distribution
- Controlled expansion
due to unique dual extrusion
Possible uses Include
A wide range of Hydrotite sections is available to suit a variety of uses. For example:
- Concrete or cast iron segmental tunnels and shafts
- Construction joints in in-situ concrete walls, slabs and floors
- Box culverts
- Flexible jointed concrete pipes and steel banded jacking pipes
- Swimming pools and tanks
- Fixings to existing concrete or brickwork for penstock valves etc.
